My Aunt Beverley happened across this wonderful poem by Vincent O'Sullivan and said it made her think of Sam and his road in The Medallion of Auratus. When she shared it with me, I agreed. Although The Medallion of Auratus and this poem having nothing to do with one another I wanted to share it with you too as I think it is brilliant and beautiful.

The Morning is Clear by Vincent O'Sullivan

The morning is clear, the sea is pure glitter,

we might have harvested diamonds had we

brought the right net.

The sea we still dream because we have

seen it.

Seen it from the beach, its paths opening

without end.

Another world is rising the merest mile

Beyond sighting. The streets know our

names.

The songs have already begun, “This is

yours, and yours.”

The boat to Ithaca calling, who says no to

that?

The boat from the richest wharf, from the

midnight beach.

We follow the moon’s ribbon tied to our

wrist.

Big thanks to the Upper Hutt Leader for their story this week on The Medallion of Auratus. The Upper Hutt Leader gave me my first job in journalism.

Introducing Paul Tobin, illustrator of The Medallion of Auratus

I’d like to introduce you to the very talented Paul Tobin who was responsible for the magnificent cover illustration of my book, The Medallion of Auratus.

Paul has been a great friend to me, and supporter the book from its inception. That’s a lot of support spanning many years.

For the last ten of those Paul has been employed at Weta Workshop as a concept designer on film, television and computer game projects. He has most recently completed work on Sir Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy and also worked on James Cameron’s Avatar (2009) and Andrew Adamson’s The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005) and Prince Caspian (2008).

In addition to his role as a concept designer Paul also conceived, art directed and designed Weta Workshop’s book The Crafting of Narnia and co-designed The World of Kong, A Natural History of Skull Island

In 2009 Paul created White Cloud Worlds – science fiction and fantasy art from New Zealand, which comprises of two art anthology books, a touring exhibition and workshops.

When time allows Paul also works as a freelance concept designer and illustrator (lucky for The Medallion of Auratus) and is a frequent speaker at Universities and Conventions worldwide.

Paul has a great blog, where he regularly posts new examples of his amazing work.

Here’s the link to the blog and his post about The Medallion of Auratus.
